The discussion reflected a wide range of perspectives\u2014from economic optimism to deep concern about governance, infrastructure, and cultural challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked whether&nbsp;<strong>living near a border is an opportunity or a disadvantage<\/strong>, participants presented a&nbsp;<strong>balanced yet critical view<\/strong>.<br>Several saw&nbsp;<strong>advantages<\/strong>, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cultural integration<\/strong>\u00a0in areas like language, art, and politics;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expanded economic and trade opportunities<\/strong>, given the proximity of\u00a0<strong>different tax and business zones<\/strong>; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Broader possibilities for growth<\/strong>\u00a0through cross-border cooperation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, others emphasized the&nbsp;<strong>disadvantages<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Territorial insecurity<\/strong>\u00a0and the threat of\u00a0<strong>smuggling<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Weak cultural connections<\/strong>\u00a0between individuals and the broader nation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rising emigration<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>social tension<\/strong>\u00a0caused by mixed nationalities; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Disturbance to local life<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0<strong>increased transport activity<\/strong>.<br>Overall, participants concluded that\u00a0<strong>border life offers both opportunity and risk<\/strong>, depending largely on the\u00a0<strong>political and economic relationships<\/strong>\u00a0between neighboring countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When discussing&nbsp;<strong>key areas where cooperation is needed<\/strong>, participants identified numerous pressing issues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Urban neglect<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>stagnation of privatized spaces<\/strong>\u00a0that could otherwise serve community needs;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Severe air pollution<\/strong>, particularly in the\u00a0<strong>Darnytskyi district of Kyiv<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Poor public transport connections<\/strong>, dominated by\u00a0<strong>railway monopolies<\/strong>\u00a0and a\u00a0<strong>lack of alternative options<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Illegal construction<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>overloaded infrastructure<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Destruction of historical monuments<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>ineffective city governance<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Obsolete education systems<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>unequal school funding<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Insufficient greenery<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>inefficient drainage systems<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>polluted rivers<\/strong>\u00a0such as the\u00a0<strong>Dnieper<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and a\u00a0<strong>need for anti-corruption measures<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>urban modernization<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants also proposed&nbsp;<strong>creating a cultural space or museum dedicated to EU initiatives in Ukraine<\/strong>, helping citizens understand&nbsp;<strong>the tangible benefits of European cooperation<\/strong>&nbsp;in their daily lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although specific Interreg projects were&nbsp;<strong>not discussed<\/strong>, the teams shared a wide array of&nbsp;<strong>innovative cooperation ideas<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Exchange programs for high school students<\/strong>, integrating Ukraine more closely into\u00a0<strong>Erasmus+ for teens<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>Ukrainian\u2013Polish youth discussion club<\/strong>\u00a0aimed at\u00a0<strong>overcoming interethnic disputes<\/strong>\u00a0and promoting\u00a0<strong>mutual understanding<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Financial assistance programs<\/strong>\u00a0for students from disadvantaged regions to\u00a0<strong>enroll in EU universities<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Adapting Ukrainian cities<\/strong>\u00a0to be more foreigner-friendly through\u00a0<strong>English signage, menus, and public transport announcements<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Attracting Western investors<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>upgrade Ukrainian railways<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>European standards<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Joint Ukrainian\u2013Polish cooperation projects<\/strong>\u00a0addressing\u00a0<strong>historical reconciliation<\/strong>, such as the\u00a0<strong>Volyn tragedy<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Digitalization of historical monuments<\/strong>\u00a0through\u00a0<strong>3D modeling and increased funding<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and\u00a0<strong>restoring the \u201cTampere\u201d Cinema in Kyiv<\/strong>\u00a0as a symbol of cultural revival.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One particularly striking proposal focused on&nbsp;<strong>foreign financial support for museums<\/strong>&nbsp;damaged during the war. Participants cited the&nbsp;<strong>Museum on Poshtova in Kyiv<\/strong>, which requires reconstruction and investment to realize its full potential.
