The discussion revealed a mix of practical observations and forward-thinking ideas for rebuilding communities, improving infrastructure, and strengthening ties with Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked whether&nbsp;<strong>living near a border is an opportunity or a disadvantage<\/strong>, students shared different perspectives.<br>Some saw it as&nbsp;<strong>an opportunity<\/strong>, especially for&nbsp;<strong>holding two citizenships<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>accessing a wider range of services<\/strong>. Others pointed out that in&nbsp;<strong>rural areas<\/strong>, where access to cities is limited, it can feel like a&nbsp;<strong>disadvantage<\/strong>&nbsp;because essential services are often unavailable locally. Participants also valued the&nbsp;<strong>cross-cultural experiences<\/strong>&nbsp;of visiting&nbsp;<strong>museums and cultural landmarks<\/strong>&nbsp;in neighboring countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One student reflected on her visit to&nbsp;<strong>Przemy\u015bl<\/strong>, a Polish city near the Ukrainian border, describing it as&nbsp;<strong>calm and peaceful<\/strong>, though lacking activities for young people\u2014many of whom leave in search of more opportunities. Another noted that living near such cities offers practical benefits, including&nbsp;<strong>easier access to international shops<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>better conditions for learning foreign languages<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding&nbsp;<strong>areas where cooperation is needed<\/strong>, students emphasized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Public transport reform<\/strong>\u2014replacing old\u00a0<em>marshrutkas<\/em>\u00a0(minibuses) with\u00a0<strong>modern buses<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Environmental improvements<\/strong>, including\u00a0<strong>installing benches, trash bins, drinking water stations, and charging points for electric cars<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rebuilding infrastructure damaged by air strikes<\/strong>, particularly\u00a0<strong>lighting and safety<\/strong>\u00a0on city streets; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Upgrading school equipment<\/strong>, such as\u00a0<strong>computers and televisions<\/strong>, to modernize education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although specific Interreg projects were&nbsp;<strong>not discussed<\/strong>, participants outlined several&nbsp;<strong>ambitious ideas for cooperation projects<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Exchange trips for Ukrainian students<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>Germany and Austria<\/strong>\u00a0to improve language skills and promote cultural understanding;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>International business incubators<\/strong>\u00a0involving\u00a0<strong>teenagers from multiple European countries<\/strong>\u00a0to foster innovation and collaboration;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Joint rebuilding projects<\/strong>, where\u00a0<strong>European volunteers help reconstruct Ukraine<\/strong>, while Ukrainian hosts offer\u00a0<strong>green tourism experiences<\/strong>\u00a0in return; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Initiatives promoting green households and eco-tourism<\/strong>, especially in countries where sustainable practices are still developing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The consultation, held with a single high school class, showed how even within one group of classmates, there is a shared vision of&nbsp;<strong>education, sustainability, and European partnership<\/strong>&nbsp;as the foundation for Ukraine\u2019s future recovery and growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 16 May 2025, Ukrainian high school students took part in a classroom consultation about border life, local priorities, and their vision for future cooperation.
