Most participants agreed that living near a border is an opportunity<\/strong>, though its benefits often depend on context and cooperation<\/strong>. They emphasized that borders can provide access to new jobs, education, and healthcare services<\/strong>, especially when bilateral agreements and Interreg-supported projects<\/strong> are in place. Borders also encourage cultural exchange, bilingualism, and tourism<\/strong>, contributing to local economic growth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, several disadvantages were noted. Some mentioned differences in salaries, taxes, or legal systems<\/strong>, which can cause confusion or inequality<\/strong>. Others pointed to traffic congestion at border crossings<\/strong> and delays for commuters<\/strong>. In regions marked by political tension<\/strong>, borders may still feel like barriers rather than gateways<\/strong>. Despite these issues, most agreed that EU initiatives such as Interreg<\/strong> have helped reduce inequalities<\/strong> by funding joint projects, improving infrastructure<\/strong>, and strengthening cooperation between neighbouring regions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When identifying areas where cooperation is most needed<\/strong>, participants pointed to transport and infrastructure<\/strong>, especially for those who cross the border daily for work or study<\/strong>. They also highlighted environmental protection<\/strong>, stressing the importance of joint action to safeguard rivers, forests, and air quality<\/strong>. In addition, they underlined the need for cross-border job creation, business support<\/strong>, and shared access to healthcare and emergency services<\/strong>, particularly in remote border areas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Students identified the Danube Transnational Programme<\/strong> as one of the most useful Interreg projects<\/strong> for their area. They appreciated its focus on transport improvement<\/strong>, environmental protection<\/strong>, and innovation<\/strong> in regions like Constan\u021ba<\/strong>, which connects the Danube River and the Black Sea<\/strong>. They also praised Interreg V-A Romania\u2013Bulgaria<\/strong>for improving cross-border roads, tourism, and emergency response services<\/strong>. For Bucharest<\/strong>, participants noted that Interreg supports regional development<\/strong> and better links with other European capitals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In discussing the main challenges<\/strong> to cross-border and transnational cooperation, participants emphasized bureaucracy<\/strong>and differences in legal systems<\/strong>, which create paperwork burdens<\/strong> for those working or studying abroad. Other obstacles included language barriers in rural areas<\/strong>, inconsistent business and transport regulations<\/strong>, and weak infrastructure<\/strong> in some regions.
