The discussion balanced optimism about collaboration with realism about the obstacles that still stand in the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most participants agreed that&nbsp;<strong>living near a border can be both an opportunity and a challenge<\/strong>. On the positive side, it&nbsp;<strong>encourages cultural exchange<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>supports tourism<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>fosters economic collaboration<\/strong>&nbsp;between neighboring regions. However, they also noted disadvantages such as&nbsp;<strong>bureaucracy<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>language barriers<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>differences in infrastructure quality and legal systems<\/strong>, which often complicate cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked about&nbsp;<strong>key areas requiring stronger cooperation<\/strong>, participants highlighted&nbsp;<strong>environmental protection<\/strong>, especially regarding the&nbsp;<strong>management of shared natural resources<\/strong>. They also emphasized&nbsp;<strong>education<\/strong>, proposing&nbsp;<strong>student exchange programs<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>bilingual learning opportunities<\/strong>. Other priorities included&nbsp;<strong>infrastructure development<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>emergency services coordination<\/strong>, along with the need to&nbsp;<strong>combat misinformation<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>promote tolerance<\/strong>&nbsp;between communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several students mentioned the&nbsp;<strong>ROBG<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Danube Transnational Programme<\/strong>&nbsp;projects, which they viewed as&nbsp;<strong>impactful examples of cross-border collaboration<\/strong>. These initiatives were recognized for their role in&nbsp;<strong>improving transport links<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>preserving biodiversity<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>promoting tourism<\/strong>&nbsp;in border areas. One participant specifically referred to a&nbsp;<strong>joint flood prevention and early warning project<\/strong>, which helped communities better prepare for natural disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group also discussed&nbsp;<strong>major barriers to cooperation<\/strong>, identifying&nbsp;<strong>administrative red tape<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>lack of institutional trust<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>limited funding<\/strong>&nbsp;as persistent challenges. They added that&nbsp;<strong>cultural and linguistic differences<\/strong>, especially in rural areas with&nbsp;<strong>less exposure to other cultures<\/strong>, can hinder collaboration.&nbsp;<strong>High travel costs<\/strong>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<strong>lack of accessible cross-border public transport<\/strong>&nbsp;were also noted as practical obstacles that restrict interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked about their&nbsp;<strong>\u201cdream projects,\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;students proposed creative and forward-thinking ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>cross-border youth hub<\/strong>\u00a0focused on\u00a0<strong>education and entrepreneurship<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>shared healthcare center<\/strong>\u00a0serving citizens on both sides of the border,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>green corridor<\/strong>\u00a0combining\u00a0<strong>cycling routes and protected natural areas<\/strong>\u00a0to promote sustainable tourism and health, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an\u00a0<strong>integrated smart city<\/strong>\u00a0that would connect two towns across a border through\u00a0<strong>shared governance and public services<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 16 May 2025, Romanian students came together to discuss the opportunities and challenges of living near a border, identifying the areas where stronger cooperation could make a real difference.
