The discussion reflected both optimism about cross-border potential and frustration with persistent institutional and infrastructural challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students expressed&nbsp;<strong>mixed opinions<\/strong>&nbsp;about life near a border. On the one hand, they highlighted&nbsp;<strong>easier access to goods and services<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>increased tourism and cultural exchange<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>more job opportunities<\/strong>, and even the possibility of&nbsp;<strong>using healthcare or education systems across the border<\/strong>. On the other hand, they pointed out&nbsp;<strong>security risks during conflicts<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>bureaucratic challenges at border crossings<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>language or cultural barriers<\/strong>&nbsp;that sometimes complicate cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When discussing&nbsp;<strong>key areas for local cooperation<\/strong>, participants emphasized&nbsp;<strong>uneven access to healthcare<\/strong>, particularly in&nbsp;<strong>smaller towns and rural regions<\/strong>, where quality services remain limited. They also noted the&nbsp;<strong>lack of sports facilities<\/strong>, which affects young people\u2019s development and physical well-being. Many called for&nbsp;<strong>stronger collaboration in innovation and technology<\/strong>, expressing a desire for&nbsp;<strong>more creative and tech-driven opportunities<\/strong>. In addition, they underlined the&nbsp;<strong>absence of cultural activities<\/strong>, which restricts&nbsp;<strong>community engagement and diversity of experiences<\/strong>, especially for youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of the students were able to name a specific&nbsp;<strong>Interreg project<\/strong>, yet they showed&nbsp;<strong>awareness of other EU-funded initiatives<\/strong>, particularly in&nbsp;<strong>education, infrastructure, and cultural exchange<\/strong>. Many were familiar with&nbsp;<strong>Erasmus+<\/strong>, which they viewed as a&nbsp;<strong>valuable opportunity for personal and academic growth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group also identified several&nbsp;<strong>barriers to effective cooperation<\/strong>. Poor infrastructure was considered a&nbsp;<strong>major obstacle<\/strong>, limiting&nbsp;<strong>mobility<\/strong>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<strong>efficient delivery of services<\/strong>. They also criticized&nbsp;<strong>inefficient public institutions<\/strong>, arguing that these weaken&nbsp;<strong>trust and collaboration<\/strong>&nbsp;with international partners. Other concerns included&nbsp;<strong>weak enforcement of environmental laws<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>inconsistent public and police services<\/strong>&nbsp;across regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When envisioning their&nbsp;<strong>dream cooperation projects<\/strong>, students proposed creative and impactful ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>establishing a\u00a0<strong>dedicated cultural space<\/strong>\u00a0to host community events and promote\u00a0<strong>intercultural dialogue<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>creating a\u00a0<strong>consultancy firm<\/strong>\u00a0to help individuals and organizations\u00a0<strong>apply for and access EU funds<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>launching a\u00a0<strong>sustainability enterprise<\/strong>\u00a0focused on\u00a0<strong>green transition and innovation<\/strong>; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>developing an\u00a0<strong>advanced cancer research laboratory<\/strong>\u00a0to improve healthcare outcomes through science and collaboration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 19 May 2025, Romanian students took part in a consultation discussing the advantages and disadvantages of living near a border, as well as their views on local cooperation, public services, and future opportunities.
